Let's correct the twisted profile of Greece

Greeks are not really a bunch of lazy people who constantly avoid work (ask any other country where they arrived as immigrants) nor systematically avoid to pay their taxes (at least I never did and non in my family did surely there are many more like myself)

Greece is a lovely country and whoever has ever visited or even decided to move there out of love, is well aware of that BUT everybody else, should spend a few minutes, going through this video.  Thank you!

Alkrotiri - Chania Prefecture - Crete #1

Requisition of 28 acres in the Akrotiri
for the construction of the new fuel pipeline

The Ministry of Defense has decided to commandeer five buildings, a total area of 28 acres at the Akrotiri area, to serve the project of the new kerosene pipeline.  The area is extending from Marathi to the Gulf of Souda and this new pipeline will cover the needs of American Base and the 115th Combat Wing.

This project is intended to replace the older one, built in the 60' under the boundaries of Sternes village which is up to date serving the same purpose.

Does that mean that we have to avoid the beautiful area of Akrotiri (Sternes and Marathi included) where lots of nice properties are currently available in the market in attractive prices?

I wish someone who understands better the local issue could give me a clearer view.

Vivid dreams - definite plans!

...this is what this blog will be all about.  Our vivid dreams and definite plans to move our life to Crete.  What Ellines (like myself) call "Megalonisos" (which means big-island).

We both feel very much cosmopolitans (combined word of Greek origin actually translated as citizens-polites of the world -cosmos).  We have lived in various places like Switzerland, Germany, Florida, Hungary (currently) and of course Greece where I have spent the biggest part of my life.
Believe it or not neither of us has never ever even visited Crete.  Myself as an Ellinida I know a lot about the island and the local people's character.  One good reason for me to want this move more than anything.
Perhaps my husband is influenced by "Zorba the Greek" film and myself by my father.
Zorba the Greek - music Mikis Theodorakis

Actually I cannot imagine my pensioner life away from Home.  More sun and definitely more sea is all I can dream of.  Those -16C οf the Magyar (Hungarian) winters are not agreeing well with me.

I don't dare think how far we still have to go before fulfilling This Dream but the journey is most of the times as interesting as reaching your destination.

Now you know what you should expect from this blog.  Our preparation, our thoughts, our home-hunting and eventually the move and the first impressions and experiences.

I hope some of you stay with us all along the ... journey.  We are already grateful for your  company.

Hunting for our dreams' home #1

Since 3 years we have started hunting for the home of our dreams.

Some friends may think that we already live in a dreamy-home. I don't blame them.
But for ME dreams are always wrapped by the gorgeous blue of the sea.

Surrounded by forests is by no means my kind of a dream. Pleasant : yes. But my dreams can be only blue.

We have come across many many beautiful homes for sale so far. We have fallen in love with some of those. But knowing that we still have sometime ahead of us we try not to be over enthusiastic with any of those.

Here is one dreamy home

What do you think about it?
